Live Roulette Variations You Can Play
While real-world roulette is classified as French, European, or American, most live roulette games are played in the European fashion, meaning that their reel contains a single zero. Instead, live roulette games experiment with the traditional formula, adding multipliers, increasing the speed, adding more reels, and so on. Below are some examples of popular live roulette variations that you can play at Prime Casino.
24/7 Roulette
This is one of the earliest examples of live roulette and was first broadcast on TV from 2005. Created by Authentic Gaming, this variant has since made the switch to a live game. This roulette game does exactly what it says on the tin and brings players top live roulette 24/7.
Auto Roulette
In Auto Roulette from developers Evolution and Playtech the host doesn’t manually spin the live roulette wheel. Instead, the game uses an automated roulette wheel. There’s minimal time between rounds, and all outcomes are dictated by RNG software to ensure fairness.
Mega Fire Blaze Roulette
This offering from Playtech is a live roulette and live game show at the same time. With the numbers on the roulette wheel being replaced by symbols which represent different stakes, the extensive range of bonus features involved in this variant include Multiplier Orbs, Cascades, Fire Blast, and the Titular Mega Fire Blaze Bonus.
Speed Roulette
This variant from Evolution was designed to ensure near-constant gameplay. With no bonuses or gimmicks to slow down rounds, Speed Roulette offers players a no-nonsense yet authentic live roulette experience.
Comparing Live Roulette With Other Roulette Types
Many new players will confuse live roulette with online roulette, assuming that the terms are interchangeable. Both represent two very different forms of roulette entertainment. In the table below we compare traditional roulette, online roulette, and live roulette.
Aspect | Traditional Roulette | Online Roulette | Live Roulette |
---|---|---|---|
Atmosphere | Real-world gaming in a physical casino atmosphere. | An entirely virtual interface with customisable elements such as sound on or off. | Combines elements of traditional roulette and online roulette by offering authentic live gameplay directly streamed to players’ chosen devices. |
Key Features | A by-the-book casino roulette experience. Multiple variants of roulette (American, European, French) may be available at a single venue, with a variety of table limits and/or house rules. | A digital interface which changes between developers. A degree of customisation, and a broad range of roulette types for players to pick from. | A HD live stream of real-world gameplay typically includes a real dealer. The gameplay takes place in real-time with live chat and multiple camera angles. |
Gameplay Experience | A physical wheel is used. Players make bets directly on the racecourse on the table, and everything is overseen by a croupier. | Rounds can start whenever the player is ready with all outcomes subject to random number generation (RNG) to ensure fair and randomised outcomes. | Real-time live streamed gameplay. Either the deal will manually spin the wheel or an auto-roulette wheel will be used. |
Unique Elements | A real-world casino ambience with the potential for social interactions and additional experiences such as food or drink. | 24/7 gameplay with solo gameplay. A diverse range of variants is offered that players can enjoy instantly with the click of a button. | Players can interact with a live dealer and other players using a live chat feature. Real-time gameplay is offered and there may be additional elements such as multipliers and bonus rounds included in gameplay. |
Availability | Players will need to visit a real-world casino during its opening hours. Different venues may have reduced accessibility i.e. stairs/steps. | Available 24/7 from any device including smartphones. | 24/7 gameplay from any device such as a smartphone. Due to the live element, gameplay is more involved than online roulette, meaning that players will need access to sound and so on. |
Social Aspect | Players interact with other players and the dealer physically. | Typically no social interaction is offered, however, some online roulette games will have live chats incorporated. | Players can chat in real-time with both the dealer and the players via a live chat function. |
Security and Reliability | The physical presence of the dealer and player develops a sense of trust. As the wheel is manually operated, fair and random outcomes are ensured. | Players will need to join a reliable online casino which is licensed by recognised authorities. The games played should also be third-party tested to ensure fairness. Outcomes are subject to RNG technology to ensure fair outcomes. | HD Live streaming from multiple camera angles ensures transparency. The expert host will build trust with their players through their interactions. These games can be played from licensed and regulated online casinos to ensure fairness. |
Bet Types & Payouts
One of the stand-out features of roulette is the number of wagers players can make. The area where players place their wagers is known as the racecourse and wagers are split into inside and outside wagers. The table below enumerates different roulette wagers you can make and the expected payout for each.
Inside Bet
Bets on specific numbers or sets of numbers are known as inside bets. Inside bets have higher payouts than outside bets due to their lower odds.
Corner (Square/Box of Four)
This wager can be called a corner, square, or box of four, depending on the terminology used by the game/casino/variant you’re playing with. This is a bet placed on a block of four numbers as they appear on the table. For the wager to be accepted, your chip must be positioned at the intersection of all four numbers. The payout for winning wagers is 8:1.
Payout: 8:1
Basket (5 Number)
This wager can only be made in American Roulette because it requires the use of the 00 segment. A basket bet is a wager on the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3. When making this bet (referred to as the ‘Sucker’ by players) the chip is placed on the line that is found between the zeroes and numbers 1, 2, and 3.
Payout: 6:1
Six Line
A Six-line bet encompasses a sequence of 6 consecutive numbers. To make this wager players place chips between the two rows of the 6 numbers they want to bet on.
Payout: 5:1
Straight Up
This is a wager on a single number. Because of the low odds of success with this wager, straight-up bets boast the highest payout.
Payout: 35:1
Street
A Street can be considered as half a six-line wager, as it is a bet on three consecutive numbers.
Payout: 11:1
Split
A split bet can be made on any two numbers (think of it like a double Straight-up bet).
Payout: 17:1
Outside Bet
Since outside bets are bets on categories, you might think of them as the more generic wagers. Outside have lower payouts since they cover a wider range of numbers, but are also more accessible to new players.
Column
Because the wager divides the numbers into three separate columns some players refer to this wager as ‘thirds’. Numbers 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, and 34 are included in the first column, numbers 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35 are included in the second column, and 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 31, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36 are used in the third column.
Payout: 2:1
Dozens
As this wager splits the table into thirds too, it's best for a beginner to use the correct terms instead of the colloquial names. The first dozen are numbers 1-2, the second is 13-24, and the third is 25-36.
Payout: 2:1
Even
This is a wager on all of the even numbers on the wheel. The section for this bet is next to the ‘red’ wager section.
Payout: 1:1
Odd
This is a bet on all of the odd numbers on the wheel. The area for this wager is next to the ‘black’ betting section.
Payout: 1:1
Black
Players wager on the outcome of the round being on a number with the colour black.
Payout: 1:1
Red
Players wager on the outcome of the round being on a number with the colour red.
Payout: 1:1
High
This is a wager on the highest numbers 19-36.
Payout: 1:1
Low
This is a wager on the lowest numbers 1-18.
Payout: 1:1
Call Bet (Special Bets/Announced Bets)
In roulette, wagers that cover particular regions of the wheel are known as "called bets" or "announced bets." Since these bets are most commonly found on French and European roulette tables, the majority of their titles are in French. These bets fall into two categories: fixed call bets, which always stay the same, and variable bets, which fluctuate based on the choices made by the participants.
Neighbours of Zero (Voisins du Zero)
The Neighbours of Zero bet is a fixed-call bet that covers the seventeen numbers on the roulette wheel that are closest to zero. The wager covers the digits 22 through 25, with the zero falling in the middle. This bet spans the largest area of the wheel of all the fixed call bets and thus requires the most betting units to win. The wager is a fusion of the split, three-number, and corner bets. It's also the only call bet that permits wagers to contain more than one unit or chip.
The Neighbours
Putting money on five consecutive numbers, like 15, 34, 22, 5, and 17, that are next to each other on the wheel rather than the table is known as a neighbour bet which is a variable call wager. In American Roulette, this is most often known as a 22 Neighbour Bet.
Final Straight
Final bets, often called "finale" or "final" bets, are variable straight bets on numbers that end with the selected digit. For example, if your last wager is on '4', then bets on the numbers 4, 14, 24, and 34 will be placed.
Zero Game (Jeu Zero)
The Zero Game bet is a fixed call wager which can be viewed as a smaller version of the Neighbours of Zero call bet. Any number on the roulette wheel that falls between 12 and 15 is included in this wager.
Final Split
This variable call bet covers all numbers that have two selected digits in them. For example, if you were to choose 0 and 1, your wager would be 0, 1, 10, 11, 20, 21, 30, and 31.
Thirds of the Wheel (Tiers du Cylindre)
Tiers du Cylindre (Thirds of the Wheel) is a fixed-call bet that covers the twelve numbers on the other side of the wheel from the numbers used in the Neighbours of Zero call bet.
Orphans (Orphelins)
The fixed wager called Orphans is called so because it covers the numbers that aren’t used in the Neighbours or Zero and Thirds of the Wheel bets.
